Birds: Brilliant & Bizarre

Modern birds are living dinosaurs that have survived to become one of the most successful and diverse groups of animals on the planet. In doing so, many have developed surprising behaviours, such as zebra finches that sing to regulate the temperature of their eggs or the Spix’s macaw who can play dead when threatened.

As senior curator of our avian anatomical collections, Dr Cooper explores the extraordinary adaptations birds have made over millions of years – and how they could evolve in the future.
